Reviving Foregone Connections

Ernesto A Somoza, a UA studio art senior, set out with a Hasselblad medium format camera to document the Durazo side of his family in black and white images after having not interacted with them for one decade. Somoza said that in reconnecting with the family, which he had not seen for about one decade, he learned that there existed not only a barrier of distance, but also language and culture. While the documentary-style project speaks to cultural and linguistic diversity, it also addresses the importance of connections people make with one another and with shared and personal spaces.
