Photo Slideshow: When Books Become Art

In 2001, Alice M. Vinson began taking an art course at Pima Community College with the decision to document a photographer friend who had relied on her as a subject. "I thought I would do the same to them: I'd make that person my project." Up until that point, Vinson had never considered herself an artist. After transferring to the UA, she began with 3D studies and became deeply invested in the fine arts and book art. Now a master's student in the UA's visual communications program, Vinson's work has bee shown in galleries, museums and at events in Arizona, California, Michigan and elsewhere. Having already begun teaching at the UA, Vinson would like to continue her work as an educator, informing students on how to produce artistic books. Vinson will be offering bookmaking workshops in the spring.
