Student EMTs Give Rapid Response to Campus Emergencies
Whether it's a bicycle collision or difficulty breathing, the UA community can count on quick help from students trained and certified as EMTs. The UA Student Emergency Medical Services group has been operational for three semesters and provides assistance in medical emergencies. Its leaders emphasize thorough training and certification.
Two UA Students Earn Goldwater Scholarships
Two UA students, Eric Hansen and Daniel Patrick Fried, have earned the 2013 Goldwater Scholarship. The nationwide scholarship, provided by the Goldwater Foundation, is the premier undergraduate award for those studying mathematics, science and engineering.
UA Fostering a New Type of Outreach
A new movement is under way to shift the way in which the UA engages its community partners in outreach initiatives funded by research grants. Where academics of the past sometimes limited their outreach projects, the move today is toward tailored, multi-year culturally responsive initiatives that serve a range of people throughout Arizona and beyond.
Externships to Give UA Students Hands-On Experience
This summer, students will work with Arizona Cooperative Extension on sustainability projects throughout the state - providing them valuable on-the-job experience and allowing them to contribute to the UA's land-grant mission of bettering the community. Said the UA's Mark Apel: "It really helps them to get ready for the job market, to understand sustainability and get some real-world working experience."
UA Offers Continued Career Support for New Grads Entering Workforce
More than 5,700 undergraduates just earned UA degrees, and while the job market is starting to look up, it remains competitive. For those still looking for jobs, a variety of UA Career Services resources continue to be available, including online job postings, career fairs, seminars, career counseling and more.
Coordinating monthly bill payments among roommates is often a complicated and frustrating experience. Matthew Garten, a UA business management major has come up with a solution – a customized website that keeps roommates informed about pending bill payments.
Black History Month events at the UA have begun, including lectures, film screenings, a field trip and block party. Several UA departments, centers and student organizations are hosting more than one dozen events.
