Young Entrepreneurs Organization Awards Scholarship to EllerCollege MBA Student
The Arizona chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO) named Kathleen Bents as the winner of a $1,000 YEO scholarship. The scholarship will be presented at YEO's Tucson membership recruitment reception on Thursday, October 5, at the Eller College of Business and Public Administration on the University of Arizona campus.
Kathleen Bents is a first year MBA student at the UA's Eller College. A medical doctor, Bents plans a career transition into health care administration. As a general practitioner in rural Arizona, Bents became frustrated as she came up against the "bean counters" of the HMOs. She spent two years studying accounting and now does bookkeeping in addition to working on her MBA. "Now I have become a 'bean counter' myself," says Bents. "I spent time in the trenches and know the challenges faced by both patients and medical professionals."
Eric Schechter, president of the YEO Arizona chapter noted that Bents displayed a true entrepreneurial spirit in responding to the scholarship application essay questions. "Kathleen exhibits the dedication and winning attitude that it takes to succeed in business today. Her entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic will carry her forward no matter what career path she chooses and YEO is proud to support her educational efforts."
YEO, affiliated with the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, is an international, non-profit, volunteer organization with 3,500 members representing 85 chapters in 30 countries.
Membership is open to business owners, co-owners, founders and co-founders age 39 and younger, whose companies generate a minimum of $1 million in gross annual revenues. Tucson business owners interested in learning more about the organization are invited to attend the membership recruitment reception from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, Room 120, McClelland
Hall, 1130 E. Helen Street.
