Wildcat Welcome Offers Food, Fun, Tradition
Kicking off with residence hall move-in on Thursday, Aug. 18 and ending 50-plus events later, Wildcat Welcome has something for everyone.
The fall semester at the University of Arizona will get under way with a flurry of Wildcat Welcome activities.
The Wildcat Welcome schedule offers 10 days of fun, food, move-in logistics, community exploration and the learning or sharing of UA traditions.
Wildcat Welcome offers something for everyone: new students, returning students, transfer students, graduate students, and even parents, faculty members and staff.
The UA's New Student Services, a part of Student Transitions, has partnered with UA departments and organizations as well as on and off-campus community organizations and businesses to create more than 50 events to start the new school year right.
Events you won't want to miss include:
Residence Hall Move-In
Early move-in is Wednesday, Aug. 17, with regular move-in beginning on Thursday, Aug. 18. Pre-arrival emails have been sent to CatMail accounts from Residence Life with information about housing assignments and check-in times.
Kick-off the year with the Wildcat Fiesta on Friday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. where students and families will be welcomed to the University community with great food, entertainment and special guests from across campus.
Wildcat Life Fair
Also on Aug. 19, as you're getting settled, stop by the Wildcat Life Fair to find the departments, resources and programs that are here to help you navigate the UA. From financial aid to recreation services to resources that support your unique identities, there is something for everyone at the Wildcat Life Fair. The Wildcat Life Fair will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Union Memorial Center.
New Student Convocation
At the New Student Convocation on Sunday, Aug. 21, new students will hear from the UA president, provost, vice president of student affairs, and more campus leaders as they welcome you to campus.
Athletics Director Greg Byrne will be the featured speaker, sharing words of wisdom and inspiration to get you ready for your first year at the UA. Wilbur, Wilma, the Cheer Team and Pep Band also will join in on the fun to teach you about UA pride and traditions. Be prepared to Bear Down at 6 p.m. at McKale Center.
"We are really excited about New Student Convocation this year. We have refocused the event on Wildcat spirit and tradition, moved it from Centennial Hall to the McKale Center, all to help students feel more connected to the UA," said Rachel A. Beech, director of New Student Services.

The time-honored Bear Down Ice Cream Bash will be open to eveyone on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Free ice cream on a hot summer's day on the UA Mall – need we say more?
