The Unique Nature of the U.S. Criminal System

Professor Paul Marcus, a criminal law expert and author, will deliver the UA law school's fifth annual Darrow K. Soll Memorial Lecture.

Paul Marcus, who previously served as the University of Arizona's law school dean, is slated to speak on campus about the U.S. criminal justice system.

Marcus, now the Haynes Professor of Law at the College of William and Mary, will be presenting the fifth annual Darrow K. Soll Memorial Lecture.

His lecture, "Miranda, the Exclusionary Rule, Jurors Talking, Entrapment, and Harsh Sentencing: Why the U.S. Criminal Justice System Has All of Them, But Other Nations Do Not," is free and open to the public. 

The event will held Feb. 2, 5-6 p.m. in Room 164 at the James E. Rogers College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd. Reservations are required and may be made online. Those without reservations are not guaranteed seating.  

Marcus, who was designated one of 12 "Outstanding Faculty" in the state of Virginia for the year 2010, also is founder and director of the Literature and the Law Program at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.

His teaching and research interests are in the criminal justice, comparative law, and intellectual property areas.

The Darrow K. Soll Memorial Criminal Law & Justice Lecture was established by friends and colleagues of the late Darrow Soll, a prominent Phoenix attorney and a 1992 graduate of the UA's law school.
