New Poetry Center Executive Director Named
Tyler Meier has been named the new executive director of the University of Arizona Poetry Center....
The coming season this fall will feature a diverse range of performing arts and blockbuster artists.
The season of performances begins in September with UApresents continuing the tradition of excellence in its core genres – classical, dance, jazz and world music.
The season kicks-off with a celebration of Mexican Independence Day featuring Mariachi Sol de México and singer Vikki Carr.
UApresents will also host three American dance masters – Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham – as well as exciting new productions from the Blue Man Group and Cirque Dreams: "Illumination."
"We continue to present the finest artists in every genre, exploring the diverse range of the performing arts," said Natalie Bohnet, executive director of UApresents, during the season launch event on Wednesday at Centennial Hall.
The season is filled with blockbuster names in every genre and features performances by legendary singer Liza Minnelli, classical violinist Joshua Bell, Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis and the Japanese performing art group KODO.
Family fun continues during the UApresents season with a performance by "Choo-Choo Soul with Genevieve" which currently airs on the Playhouse Disney Channel.
In addition, Broadway's biggest musical comes to UApresents in a partnership with Broadway in Tucson to host the Southern Arizona premiere of "Wicked."
"I am grateful to everyone who helped pull this terrific season together," Bohnet added.
Most events are held at Centennial Hall with one performance at Crowder Hall. Subscription renewals began immediately following the launch event on Wednesday for renewing subscribers who were also donors. All other renewals will begin March 12.
New subscription sales also begin April 12 and individual ticket sales begin on June 14. Subscription packages and savings apply by purchasing four or more performances. Individual tickets for "Wicked" will go on sale in September.
