UA Student Club Hosting Career Expo
The student organized event is open to UA students in any major who are interested in career opportunities with a variety of employers.
Helping other students overcome the feelings of intimidation that come with meeting a potential new employer is the goal of the students organizing the annual Students in Free Enterprise Career Expo.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Memorial Center. The expo is open to all University of Arizona students, and recruiters are hiring a variety of majors.
This year's expo pairs the efforts of the enterprising students of the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing with the expertise of the UA Career Services office to offer job-seeking students the opportunity to network with top employers.
Now in its 12th year, the career expo is organized by members of the UA chapter of Students In Free Enterprise – who are dedicated to helping educate and prepare UA students for their careers by teaching them the skills needed to succeed in the professional world.
"It is the second year we have worked with UA Career Services to bring top employers to campus," said senior and event co-chair Laura Freeman.
Freeman said she first attended a Student in Free Enterprise career expo as a sophomore and recalls being racked with nerves at the thought of networking with potential employers.
"Once I went, I realized how the employer representatives were really there to meet you and get to know you. Now, they remember me from years past. It gets easier once you realize that as employers, they are looking for us as much as we are looking for them," she said.
More than 40 employers will be in attendance, with recruiters from companies such as Dick's Sporting Goods, Collective Brands, PetSmart, TJX Companies, GEICO, Home Depot, Microsoft, Pottery Barn, Ross Stores, State Farm, Verizon Wireless, Vanguard, Target, Macy's and Insight Global.
