The UA is ranked No. 183 by QS World University Rankings 2012-13, which evaluate the top 700 universities across the globe.
The University of Arizona has been ranked among the top universities in the world by QS World University Rankings.
The UA is ranked No. 183 among the world's top 700 universities in the 2012-13 rankings, which are compiled based on data in four key areas of concern for students: research, employability, teaching and internationalization.
In addition to its overall ranking, the UA is ranked No. 139 in natural sciences, No. 176 in arts and humanities, No. 200 in social sciences and management, No. 216 in engineering and technology and No. 233 in life sciences and medicine, based on academic reputation in those five broad faculty areas.
More than 2,000 universities are considered and more than 700 are evaluated for the QS World University Rankings, released every fall since 2004. The top 400 universities are ranked individually, while those below 400 are ranked by group.
The overall rankings are based on six indicators: academic reputation, determined by a survey of academics worldwide, asked which universities are producing the best research in their respective fields (40 percent of the score); employer reputation, determined by a global online survey of employers, asked to identify which universities produce the best graduates (10 percent of score); faculty/student ratio (20 percent of score); the number of citations by faculty in academic publications (20 percent of score); and, finally, international faculty ratio (5 percent of score) and international student ratio (5 percent of score).
A list of the top 700 universities is available on the QS World University Rankings website.
