UA Graduates Among the World's Most Employable
The Global Employability Survey ranks the UA 13th among American public universities, in the top 40 for all U.S. institutions and at No. 124 internationally.
The University of Arizona is one of the top universities in the world when it comes to producing employable graduates, according to the third annual Global Employability Survey.
The survey, a partnership between the French human resources consulting group Emerging and German market research firm Trendence, ranks the top 150 universities across the globe based on the employability of their graduates.
The UA is ranked 13th among American public universities, in the top 40 for all U.S. institutions and at No. 124 internationally.
The rankings are based on interviews with more than 5,000 top recruiters in 20 different countries. They were asked to describe:
- What a perfect university might look like.
- What qualities graduates need to succeed in companies.
- How universities can better prepare graduates for the job market.
- Which universities produce the best graduates.
The 2013 survey results highlight the importance of universities teaching students communication skills, how to engage in teamwork, and how to work under pressure and in different challenging situations.
Survey respondents overwhelmingly stressed the importance of universities emphasizing practical know-how and experience for their students. This is something the UA is committed to with President Ann Weaver Hart's focus on 100 percent student engagement – that is, guaranteeing that every UA student has a chance to experience "the real world in real time" through meaningful hands-on activities outside the classroom.
"Students need more than just good grades and a college degree to get ahead," said UA President Hart. "At the UA, we strive to give every student opportunities to apply what they learn through internships, faculty-led research projects and volunteer programs. It's about graduating students who are experienced, competitive and ready for any challenge. It's gratifying to see that our work in this area is being recognized in this ranking by business recruiters worldwide."
