Starting Aug. 5, Wildcat basketball fans will get their renewal notices online.
Starting next week, University of Arizona Athletics is going "paperless" for all season ticket renewals.
This starts Friday, Aug. 5, when basketball season ticket holders will be notified online instead of by mail that it's time to renew their seats.
In addition to men's and women's basketball, it also includes baseball, softball, gymnastics, volleyball and soccer, and – next season – football.
The process began a couple of years ago when Arizona Athletics brought several sports into the paperless renewal system, said Kris Giese, the assistant director of ticket operations and customer relations. For students, faculty and staff, ticketing is already paperless.
"The decision was made in April to start notifying fans. We made two phone calls and will mail a postcard to everyone, and (UA athletics director) Greg Byrne made note of it in June on his Wildcat Wednesday blog," Giese said.
The move is part of a national trend. In the Pac-12, Oregon and Southern California have made the switch. For schools with tens of thousands of season ticket fans, going paperless saves thousands of dollars in materials, time and energy.
Online is not the only option to renew, just the quickest and the easiest. Still, season tickets can be renewed over the phone, by mailing in a check or by coming in person to the McKale Ticket Office.
Giese said most fans, but not all, have embraced the new system. They'll be getting another reminder, a phone call, but no direct mail notice.
"As technology advances, we will continue to explore ways we can be more efficient, fan friendly and environmentally friendly. This transition allows us to address all of these elements for our fan base," said Byrne.
The online process can be initiated by going to http://www.arizonawildcats.com/ and clicking on the Ticket button near the top right-hand corner and following the prompts.
Season ticket holders will need to activate their account with a customer number and an activation number for their first time online.
