Three Wildcats Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors
Arizona seniors Katie Jackels and Dominique Lamb and junior Randy Goodenough received Pacific-10 Conference Women’s Volleyball All-Academic honorable mention honors, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
This is the second consecutive year that Jackels has received Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors. As a communications major, she averaged 2.89 digs per game, the second highest on the team, and tallied a school record 37 digs in the match against Saint Mary’s on Aug. 25, becoming the first Wildcat to post more than 30 digs in a match since 1988. She ended her career at the UA having played in 88 matches and with 630 career digs to her credit.
Lamb has earned honorable mention honors for the third straight season. She finished her career with 464 block assists, the most in school history, and 527 total blocks, the second most in UA history. Over her four-year career, she averaged 1.33 blocks and 2.03 kills per game, and ranks sixth all-time having played in 118 career matches as a Wildcat. This season Lamb, who is majoring in public health, led the team in blocks, averaging 1.47 blocks per game, the second best in the Pac-10. She was third on the squad in kills, averaging 2.53 kills per game.
Goodenough has earned honorable mention honors for the first time in her career after a breakout season. The outside hitter led the Wildcats in kills per game, averaging 3.73, ranked third on the team in blocks per game, averaging 0.95, and was third on the team in digs per game, averaging 2.39. In 31 matches, Goodenough led the team in kills 16 times, and has posted double figures in kills 23 times. Goodenough finished the season with a team-best 12 double-doubles.
Arizona finished the 2007 season with a 14-17 overall record, and a 4-14 mark in Pac-10 play. The Wildcats ended the year by knocking off No. 10 UCLA in four games in the season finale on Nov. 24. The team is scheduled to return 10 letterwinners to next year’s squad.
