Reported Gunman in Cherry Street Garage: UAPD Gives All-Clear

The University of Arizona Police Department investigated a report Thursday afternoon that there was a man in the Cherry Street garage with a rifle. UAPD immediately responded, secured the area and conducted a thorough search of the garage, McKale Memorial Center and the immediate area. No gunman was found. An all-clear was issued later in the afternoon.

UAPD plans to follow up with the person who called in the report, said Joe Bermudez, UAPD's crime prevention specialist.

Here is a timeline of the UAlert messages that were sent on Thursday:

2:50 p.m. – Avoid area of McKale Garage, report of Hispanic male, dark clothing, backpack & rifle on 1st level of garage.

2:56 p.m. – Police on scene at McKale/Cherry Garage. Subject described as Hispanic male/6'/175 lbs/Black T-shirt/shorts/backpack/rifle. Avoid area

3:09 p.m. – Individual reported with rifle not located by police search @ garage. McKale/Cherry garage is open for use.

3:21 p.m. – Subject reported w/ gun NOT found during police search of McKale/Cherry Garage and immediate area. ALL CLEAR
