The public has a chance to bid for laptops, desktop computers, bicycles and more during an upcoming live auction to be held at the UA.

Laptops, computers, bicycles, cell phones and athletics items will be up for auction at The University of Arizona next month.

A live public auction will be held noon to 1 p.m. May 4 on the UA Mall just south of the Student Union Memorial Center. Registration and a viewing of the items up for auction will begin at 9 that morning.

It is the first time the Procurement and Contracting Services Surplus Property Office will host an auction on campus, said John Bentley, the office's associate marketing specialist.

Typically, the auctions are held each Tuesday at the office's warehouse, which is located south of campus at East 21st Street and South Warren Avenue.

"We want to make people more aware of our UA auctions especially students, faculty and staff as well as the public," said Bentley said.

"Also, we wanted show that there can be real bargains and cost savings to the bidding participants," Bentley added.

More than 30 items are going to be sold during the auction and may be viewed at the Surplus Property Office Web site after 5 p.m. on April 24. While bidding for the typical monthly auctions is available online, the office is not hosting a Web-based bidding on May 4.

A portion of funds from the auction return tot he UA department that submitted the items as surplus. Another portion goes tothe UASurplus Property office.
