Professor, Author to Deliver Annual Legal Lecture

Carol Sanger, a nationally recognized expert on reproductive rights, will present the annual Isaac Marks Memorial Lecture at the UA James E. College of Law.

Carol Sanger, a nationally recognized expert on reproductive rights, will present the Isaac Marks Memorial Lecture at the University of Arizona James E. College of Law.

Sanger, the Barbara Aronstein Black Professor of Law Columbia Law School, will present her lecture, "About Abortion: Meaning and Methodology," as part of the lecture series. 

The April 5, 5-6 p.m. event will be held in Room 164, the Ares Auditorium, at the law school, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd. 

Seating is available on a first come, first served basis, and is limited. There is no "saved" seating. Visitor parking is available for a fee at several parking garages near campus. A visitor parking map is available online. 

Sanger has long studied ways laws influences decisions about family formation, particularly with regard to mothers and children. She is currently writing a book, "About Abortion," which focuses on the social and legal regulation of abortion in the U.S. 

Sanger, who also holds a position as senior research fellow at St. Anne's College, Oxford, received her undergraduate degree in 1970 from Wellesley College and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1976. 

She began her teaching career at the University of Oregon and also has taught at Santa Clara University Law School and served as a visiting faculty member at Stanford Law School. Sanger joined the Columbia faculty in 1996.  

At Columbia, Sanger teaches contracts, family law and other courses concerning women's reproductive lives.

For her work, Sanger received the Columbia University Teaching Award and the Columbia Law School Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
