<p><br />The Eller College of Business and Public Administration and the College of Engineering and Mines at the University of Arizona in Tucson have named Louise Francesconi, president of Raytheon Missile Systems and Raytheon Company vice president, as the 2002 Technology & Management Executive of the Year.<br /><br />She will be honored at the annual Technology & Management Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 12, at noon, at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale. The luncheon celebrates the contributions of high-tech enterprises and entrepreneurial ventures to the economy of the State of Arizona.<br /><br />Francesconi runs the world's largest missile company, overseeing nearly 40 missile programs that support every mission area of U.S. and allied military forces. Prior to the merger of Raytheon and Hughes operations in 1997, Francesconi worked for Hughes Aircraft Company. In October, Fortune magazine named Francesconi for the second time as one of the nation's "50 Most Powerful Women." <br /><br />The two colleges, in addition, will honor four executives who are all UA alumni. <br /><br />Robert Eckert, chairman of the board and CEO of toy giant Mattel Inc., will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Eller College. Prior to taking the top post at Mattel, Eckert spent more than 20 years at Kraft Foods, rising through the ranks of various marketing and senior management positions to become president and CEO. Under Eckert's leadership, Mattel's earnings climbed nearly 16 percent in 2001, and Harry Potter has become a toy franchise as enduring as Hot Wheels and Barbie.<br /><br />Craig Berge, president of Berge Ford in Mesa and chairman of the University of Arizona Foundation Board, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the College of Engineering and Mines. Since joining the family business, a small automobile dealership, in 1962, he has led its expansion into the multifaceted company it is today. The acquisition of multiple automobile franchises, real estate development, construction, and cattle feeding and farming interests have made him one of Arizona's outstanding entrepreneurs.<br /><br />Frances McClelland, secretary/treasurer of Shamrock Foods Company, will receive the Eller College Distinguished Service Award. McClelland began working in her family's business, Shamrock Dairy Inc., in 1948. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 1964 and continues to serve as the secretary/treasurer of the Shamrock Foods Company, now the largest food distributor in Arizona and the eighth largest distributor in the United States. McClelland Hall, home of the Eller College of Business and Public Administration on the University of Arizona campus is named in honor of the McClelland family.<br /><br />Craig Goehring, board chairman, president, and CEO of Brown and Caldwell will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the College of Engineering and Mines. Goehring joined the nationwide environmental engineering and consulting firm Brown and Caldwell in 1977 and in 1995, was named president, CEO, and board chairman. He reinvigorated the company's brand by emphasizing the firm's longstanding reputation for true innovation and technological leadership and annual revenues have nearly tripled under his leadership. <br /><br /><br /><br /> </p>
