The winter break was nice, but it's time to get busy again.

This pottery motif quilt by Anna Tahbo is one of 20 quilts that will be on exhibit at the Arizona State Museum beginning Jan. 21.

The Arizona men's basketball and hockey teams each play eight games this month.

UA Life & Work Connections is joining forces with Weight Watchers to bring meetings to campus beginning this month.

The winter closure of the University of Arizona campus is behind us. It was a nice break – and it's not quite over. With a week left to go until spring semester classes begin Jan. 11, parking is still relatively easy to find and campus eateries aren't packed.

Even if things are a little mellow on campus at the moment, there are still lots of things to do, whether you're in New Year's resolution mode or you are a die-hard UA sports fan.

But don't take our word for it. Check out the UA Master Calendar for a full listing of things that are happening this month.

"Remembering January 8th" Community Events | Jan. 8

A series of events will take place on campus and the city to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the shooting that left six people dead and wounded 14, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. The day will culminate in a series of talks at Centennial Hall, followed by a candlelight vigil on the UA Mall that will feature the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Speakers at the vigil will include Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Dr. Peter Rhee, who treated Giffords, and Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly. The emcee for the evening will be Ron Barber, a shooting survivor who works in Giffords' office and founded the Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding.

Weight Watchers Group Meetings | Beginning Jan. 20

UA Life & Work Connections is helping the campus community stick to its New Year's resolutions by teaming up with Weight Watchers to start holding meetings on campus. A weekly Friday series begins Jan. 20 at the University of Arizona Medical Center - University Campus, while a weekly Monday series kicks off on Jan. 23 in the Student Union Memorial Center. All the meetings are noon to 1 p.m. And if you just want a quick, post-holiday weigh-in without joining Weight Watchers, be sure to stop in on Jan. 11 for the "No Holiday Weight Gain Challenge."

UApresents: Zoppé Family Circus | Jan. 13-15

The circus is coming to town! Zoppé Family Circus is set to put on six performances in three days that will captivate the whole family. Starring Nino the clown, the show features acrobatic feats and plenty of audience participation. Nino is played by sixth-generation circus performer Giovanni Zoppé, whose family founded the circus more than 160 years ago in Venice, Italy. Tickets are available for matinee and evening shows.

"Hopi Quilts: Unique Yet Universal" Exhibit | Beginning Jan. 21

Quilting is widely thought of as an American tradition, and this exhibit showcases the pastime as a Native American tradition, featuring 20 examples from the 1970s to more recent years. The exhibit begins this month and runs almost until summer's end, with a special opening celebration on Jan. 20. CatCard holders get in for free.

UA Men's Basketball and Hockey Games | All month long

UA sports fans have all kinds of options this month. Arizona men's basketball takes on Anaheim on Thursday in Anaheim, but the team plays seven more games this month, four of them at home. If hockey is more your speed, you'll be pleased to know that Arizona Wildcats hockey also plays eight games this month, beginning Friday, and six of them are at home at the Tucson Convention Center. Bear down!
