Bobbi Olson, Wife of UA Men's Basketball Coach, Dies. Memorial Scheduled
Bobbi Olson, 1935-2001<br /><br />Bobbi Olson died peacefully early Monday morning, surrounded by her family, from complications related to ovarian cancer. She was 65.<br /><br />Mrs. Olson, the former Roberta Russell, was the wife of Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson. The couple had been married 47 years and have five children and 13 grandchildren.<br /><br />Services will be private, but a public memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 3 p.m. in the UA McKale Center. Pastor Mark Roessler of Catalina Foothills Church will conduct the ceremony. Parking will be available in the Cherry Avenue Garage and surface lots around McKale.<br /><br /> <p>In lieu of flowers, a special memorial fund is being established in Bobbi Olson's name at the Arizona Cancer Center, where she had undergone treatment since her illness was diagnosed in June 1998. <br /><br />In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a special memorial fund named for Bobbi Olson at the Arizona Cancer Center. Contributions should be made payable to the Arizona Cancer Center/UAF and mailed to Arizona Cancer Center Development, P.O. Box 245013, Tucson, AZ 85724-5013.<br /><br />Coach Lute Olson said the family "extends its sincere thanks and gratitude to the Tucson community for respecting the family's privacy" throughout Mrs. Olson's illness.<br /><br /></p>
