UA's Lalang Named Finalist for The Bowerman
For the second consecutive year, UA senior Lawi Lalang has been named a finalist for The Bowerman, an award given annually to the best male and female student-athletes in American collegiate track and field. Lalang is only the second male to ever be named a finalist more than once.
Hazzard to Represent UA on Pac-12 Tour of China
Jacob Hazzard and other members of the Pac-12 Conference all-star men's basketball team will head to China in August to play a Chinese all-star team, as well as the Shanghai Sharks, the Jiangsu Dragons and the 2013-14 Chinese Basketball Association regular season champion, the Guangdong Southern Tigers.
Seven UA athletes who competed in the 2012 Paralympics made a strong showing in London: Zachary Abbott, Bryan Barten, Jordan Bird, Tanner Gers, Adam Kellerman, Jennifer Poist and Noah Yablong. The games ran from Aug. 29 through Sept. 9.
Matt Scott and Ka'Deem Carey accounted for seven combined touchdowns and the Arizona (2-0) defense forced four critical turnovers to lift the Wildcats to a 59-38 upset of No. 18 Oklahoma State (1-1) on Sept. 8 at Arizona Stadium. Next up: Arizona will play South Carolina State at home on Sept. 15.
The Arizona women's golf team is ranked No. 14 in the preseason poll, and sophomore Manon Gidali is listed among the Top-50 Female Players to Watch. The UA welcomes back two seniors, one junior and three sophomores. Additionally, three freshmen have joined the team for the 2012-13 season.
Arizona (1-0) will welcome No. 19 Oklahoma State (1-0) in an early-season non-conference football clash at Arizona Stadium on Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. MST. The match-up will be a litmus test for two programs going through contrasting stages. The game will be shown on the Pac-12 Networks.
Arizona will host Toledo in the 2012 season opener for both schools on Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium with a national TV broadcast on ESPNU. The game will mark the beginning of an era for Rich Rodriguez, the UA's new head coach.
The 2012 Arizona baseball national championship team was honored before the Arizona Diamondbacks home game against the San Diego Padres at Chase Field last weekend. Arizona's fall practice season will begin on Oct. 8, and players will begin "skill hours" work on Sept. 4. The Wildcats will begin to defend their national title on Feb. 15 against Coppin State at Hi Corbett Field.
