Best Friends Since High School, Swimming Seniors Wrap Up Final Year
UA seniors Grace Finnegan and Margo Geer, both swimmers, have been best friends since high school and even chose to attend the UA together, where they have earned multiple All-American nods and have represented well in Olympic trials. Arizona Softball Hoping Depth and Experience Will Earn Return to Women's CWS
After opening its season earlier this month, the Arizona softball team is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Grand Canyon to kick off the Hillenbrand Invitational, a tournament that includes teams from New Mexico, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Tennessee State.
Led by Mike Candrea in his 29th year as head coach, the team hopes its depth and experience will get it back to the Women’s College World Series.
Miller to Add to Arizona’s USA Basketball Legacy
Sean Miller, the UA men's basketball coach, has been selected for the 2014 USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team. Miller will serve as an assistant coach for the national team, assisting head coach Billy Donovan of the University of Florida.
The UA's new copper football helmets will debut at the Oregon State game on Sept. 29 – the Copper Game. Over the years, Arizona football helmets have included a variety of designs using the colors red, white and blue. The Wildcats’ newest helmet design boldly highlights the color copper to pay tribute to the state of Arizona and its great mining history.
No. 22 Arizona will travel to Eugene, Ore. to take on No. 3 Oregon in the Pac-12 football opener for both schools on Sept. 22. Two of the nation's longest current win streaks will push their limits, with the winner gaining a leg up on competition in its respective Pac-12 division. The game will be televised live on ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. PDT.
Two land-grant institutions separated by nearly 2,000 miles will square off for the first time on the gridiron Sept. 15 when Arizona hosts South Carolina State at Arizona Stadium. The football game will be televised on Pac-12 Arizona beginning at 7:30 p.m. MST.
Seven UA athletes who competed in the 2012 Paralympics made a strong showing in London: Zachary Abbott, Bryan Barten, Jordan Bird, Tanner Gers, Adam Kellerman, Jennifer Poist and Noah Yablong. The games ran from Aug. 29 through Sept. 9.
