UA Art Students Hosting Workshop Series

UA students Chris Broduer and Roy Young are co-hosting a workshop series at the Union Gallery to help people tap into their inner artist.

Two University of Arizona students are leading a workshop series meant to bring the artistic nature out of individuals.

The "Teach Me" art workshop series is being led by Honors College student Chris Broduer, a senior studying studio art and art education, and Roy Young, a mater's degree student in art education.

"The main focus was for the Union Gallery to increase exposure, teaching experiences for Chris and I and mainly to offer all the UA community the ability to take art, increase student exposure and have fun," Young said.

Focused on sculpture, photography and painting, the series will also include tours and field trips to galleries and museums on campus to study the UA's public art collection.

This workshop, which is sponsored by UA Student Affairs  and Xerox, is geared toward University students, but is open to all. Participants can attend one or all of the workshops in the series.

All sessions will be held at the Union Gallery, which is located on the northeast corner of the Student Union Memorial Center's third floor.

Participants will be encouraged to explore their artistic skills while examining different mediums and speaking in groups.

The Sept. 30 workshop will be held 5 to 7 p.m. focusing on clay sculpture. The Oct. 21 workshop, also from 5 to 7 p.m., will focus on digital photography, specificially taking photographs of the environment.

The Oct. 28 workshop, to be held 5 to 7 p.m., will also focus on digital photography, but more specifically on manipulating images. The last session, held Nov. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m., will center on painting.

Participants should take their own digital camera to photography sessions, but all other studio materials will be provided free of charge. Registration is required by visiting the Union Gallery or by sending an e-mail to Roy Young at ryoung@email.arizona.edu.
