Former University of Arizona star Kim Glass and the United States women’s volleyball team advanced to the gold medal match for the first time since 1984 with a 3-0 sweep of Cuba. Game scores were 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17.
The victory avenged the American’s only loss of the tournament, a 3-0 lost to Cuba on Aug. 11.
Glass tallied five points in today’s win and told usavolleyball.com, “I think the team came together. We always fight. We came together as one unit.”
The U.S. will face Brazil in the Olympic final on Saturday.
In softball, a streak of 22 consecutive Olympic victories came to an end as Japan defeated the United States 3-1 in the gold medal game.
It marked the first time since the sport was added to the Olympic program in 1996 that the U.S. did not earn a gold medal.
Former Wildcat Caitlin Lowe was 2-for-4 in the game, while Lovieanne Jung was 0-for-2.
