Culture Craft Saturday and Public Opening Celebration for "The Pottery Project"

Explore the art of the potter and science of the archaeologist as Arizona State Museum celebrates 2,000 years of Native pottery-making traditions in the Southwest. Check out the brand new exhibit, "The Pottery Project," and visit with museum curators. The exhibition includes a fully interactive, multimedia Virtual Vault, video interviews with archaeologists and Native potters and hands-on experiences.

Tour the museum’s state-of-the-art conservation laboratory and speak with conservators. Watch potters Marilyn Ray from Acoma Pueblo and Annie Manuel from the Tohono O’odham Nation demonstrate and teach their art. Make your own clay piece to take home. Create a pottery puzzle from designs featured in our pottery collection. Construct a paper pot that holds rain imagery and symbols. Challenge yourself in a game of Pottery Concentration. Shape and mold your thoughts about pottery in a creative writing activity with literacy specialist Marge Pellegrino.
