Four University of Arizona men’s basketball players – Jerryd Bayless, Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill and Jawann McClellan – were recognized as the Pacific-10 Conference announced its postseason honors this week.
Bayless and Budinger were all-Pac-10 honorees, and Hill and McClellan garnered honorable mention nods.
Bayless, a freshman guard from Phoenix, earned second-team all-Pac-10 honors after averaging 20.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 27 appearances. Bayless shoots 46.9 percent from the field and a team-leading 83.1 percent from the free-throw line. He has finished in double figures 24 times this year, including 12 20-point and four 30-point games. He was also a National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 15 selection and is a member the 24-man John R. Wooden Award ballot.
Budinger, a sophomore forward from Encinitas, Calif., was a third-team all-Pac-10 selection after averaging 17.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in 31 appearances. Budinger shoots 43.6 percent from the field and leads the team with 67 3-point field goals. He has a team-leading 26 double-figure scoring games to his credit in 2007-08 and has registered one double-double. He was also a second-team NABC All-District 15 selection.
Hill, a sophomore forward from Atlanta, was an honorable mention all-Pac-10 and all-defensive team pick after averaging 13 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots per game in 31 appearances. Hill shoots a Pac-10-leading 61.6 percent from the field to go with 15 steals. He leads Arizona with eight double-doubles this year and has scored in double figures 22 times. It is the first time he has been honored by the league.
McClellan, a senior guard from Houston, was an honorable mention Pac-10 all-defensive team selection after averaging 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 31 appearances. He shoots 44.3 percent from the field and ranks second on the team with 20 blocked shots and fourth with 21 steals. He has 10 double-figure scoring games to his credit and a total of 11 multiple-block or multiple-steal games in 2007-08.
