Gutierrez Named Portrait of Excellence Award Winner

Jaime P. Gutierrez, associate vice president for community relations at The University of Arizona, has been named a winner the 2007 Portrait of Excellence Award by the UA Hispanic Alumni Club.

Gutierrez and Carmen Bermúdez, chief executive officer and founder of the Tucson Mission Management & Trust Co., will receive the awards at the club's 23rd annual Hispanic Alumni Scholarship Dinner and Dance on Friday.

Gutierrez has worked at the University for more than 14 years. He was the special assistant to the president before assuming his current position. He serves on the board of the Arizona State Retirement System, and has served the state as a senator and deputy director of the Pima County Juvenile Court Center.

In addition, Gutierrez has "worked effortlessly in advancing the education of minorities, and he has been a part of numerous committees that assist various nonprofit organizations," said Stephen J. MacCarthy, vice president for external relations.

"Jaime has been a great asset to the University and we thank him and congratulate him on his recent award," MacCarthy said .
