London Paralympics: UA Athlete Results Seven UA athletes who competed in the 2012 Paralympics made a strong showing in London: Zachary Abbott, Bryan Barten, Jordan Bird, Tanner Gers, Adam Kellerman, Jennifer Poist and Noah Yablong. The games ran from Aug. 29 through Sept. 9.
UA's Jordan Bird Races in London Paralympics UA Paralympian Jordan Bird raced in this week's 800-meter handcycling competition in the T-54 division. A collision early on set him back, but he recovered and finished sixth of eight. Bird is a senior at the UA, where he earned a track scholarship.
Jamie Blanchard, a UA alumna, is the communications manager for the United States Olympic Committee's U.S. Paralympics division.
UA Journalism Grad is Paralympics Chief Storyteller Jamie Blanchard, a graduate of the UA School of Journalism, is the communications manager for the Paralympics in London, which starts Aug. 29. She'll be telling the participants' stories of athleticism, inspiration and courage throughout the Games, which run through Sept. 9.
Representing the UA Adaptive Athletics track and field team: Jordan Bird, a UA psychology junior, will race for medals in the 400 and 800-meter competitions; Zachary Abbott, a physiology major, will race in the 100, 200, 400 and 800-meter events; and Tanner Gers, a business administration and communication junior who is visually impaired, will compete in the long jump competition and serve as an alternate in the 4 x 100-meter relay.

Their countless hours of dedication to wheelchair tennis, basketball and track and field, as well as visually impaired track and field, will be tested in London among the world’s best.

UA Engineering Grad Training Hard for 2012 Paralympics Noah Yablong, a UA engineering management graduate and adaptive sports athlete, will play for Team USA in the Paralympic Games. Yablong, a top wheelchair tennis player with a world ranking of 58 and a U.S. Tennis Association ranking of 4, played for the UA wheelchair tennis team during his undergraduate studies at the UA.

Arizona Well-Represented in 2012 Olympics

Three Ford/Zona Swimmers Headed to 2012 Olympic Games

Matt Grevers, Clark Burckle and Alyssa Anderson will compete in the 2012 Olympic Games, which begin July 27. Of the 56 swimmers that competed for the UA and Tucson Ford Aquatics at the Olympic Trials, there were 18 appearances in final rounds and 28 in semifinals.

Arizona Brings Biggest Team to Olympic Swimming Trials

The UA swimming team and Tucson Ford Aquatics travel to the Olympic trials this week in Omaha, Neb. The teams, known as Ford and Zona at the trials, have qualified 56 athletes – more than any other team in the country – for the event. The trials run through July 2 and will be televised.
