A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 5 in memory of Kristopher A. Weatherly, former associate director of the University Teaching Center.

A memorial service will be held this month in memory of the late Kristopher A. Weatherly, formerly the associate director of the University Teaching Center at the University of Arizona.

Weatherly had been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome – a type of bone marrow disorder that causes improperly formed blood cells. He died July 4.

The Oct. 5 service will be held at 2 p.m. at the Little Chapel, 1052 N. Highland Ave. The one-hour memorial is open to the campus community and will include a video tribute to Weatherly.

After learning of Weatherly's condition, the UA's University Teaching Center collaborated with the Be The Match Registry and rallied the campus community to try and find a bone marrow donor.

Campbellsville University, where Weatherly – a UA alumnus – previously worked, also collaborated with the Be The Match Registry, formerly the National Marrow Donor Program Registry, to hold a donor drive in honor of Weatherly.

The UA Teaching Center hosted a series of bone marrow drives. In the end, a near-perfect match was found for Weatherly. While a successful bone marrow transplant was performed, Weatherly passed.

Individuals who attend will also be able to share short stories and memories of Weatherly.

Those who would like to contribute photographs, letters or poetry prior to the memorial service should contact Mariel Watt at 520-621-7788 or marielw@email.arizona.edu.
