Mike Thomas, who was a star football player during his time with the Arizona Wildcats, has been signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Former Wildcat star player Mike Thomas, a rookie wide receiver who has been described as one of the best in the nation, has been signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The National Football League club made the announcement, stating that 22-year-old Thomas has agreed on a three-year contract.
Thomas was the club's fourth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and the 107th pick overall. He is the second of the team's nine draft picks to sign a contract this year.
One of the other Jags' picks was UA all-conference offensive tackle Eben Britton, who the club selected as the overall 39th pick. Britton is projected as a left tackle for the Jaguars, which is the position he played at the UA in 2008.
Thomas was one of three receivers selected by the Jaguars in 2009.
As an athlete at the UA, Thomas was a four-year starter, ranking third in the school's history with 3,231 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns.
Also, Thomas set a Pacific-10 Conference record with 259 career receptions, capped by a senior season in 2008 when he was selected as a first-team All-Pac-10 receiver and the first-team all-league punt returner.
Also, in 2008, he led Arizona to its first bowl appearance in nine seasons and finished with 74 receptions for 825 yards and four touchdowns.
And one year ago, Thomas was named as one of 75 players selected for the Maxwell Award's Watch List. The placement meant Thomas was under early consideration for the 2008 award, which recognizes the nation's outstanding football player.
