UA Honors College students are putting on two free performances of a more modern play.

Students in The University of Arizona's Honors College will perform a series of humerous scenes and monologues with compelling, comical and heart wrenching answers to questions about love.

The Honors College Players present "20 Something(s)," a play that seeks to answer questions about what people do in the pursuit of love and what they do when they find it.

"This experience has been wonderful," said Alex Van Boven, a UA Honors College student studying psychology, who is one of the cast members.

"The show is very unique and unlike other plays the Honors College has done in the past," Van Boven said. The current play has more of a contemporary twist compared with some of the college's recent performances, some of which have been classic plays.

The troupe was initiated during the 1980s when UA professor emeritus Frank La Ban of the School of Theatre Arts began directing and producing plays twice a year with Honors College students.

All of the actors in the plays are Honors College students, who spend several weeks rehearsing prior to their performances.

"What I love most about it is that it really speaks to young adults," Van Boven said about the current production. "I think many people who come and watch will really relate to what they see on stage, and that is what makes it so special."

Performances will be held April 3 at 7:30 p.m. and April 4 at 8 p.m. Both performances will be held at the UA's Slonaker House courtyard, located at 1027 E. Second St.

Performances are free and open to all, but seating is offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

The play was directed by Corey Dane, company manager for the the Arizona Theatre Company and a consultant for the troupe. The play stars Maddy Banerjee, Caitlyn Bindschadler, Jenna Cornia, Andrew Fischer, Emily Kneale, Benjamin Lebovitz, Huston Matheus and Alex Van Boven – all Honors College students.
