UA Tech Park Contributes Nearly $2.5B Annually to Pima County

A new report examines the economic and tax revenue impact of the UA Science and Technology Park for the calendar year 2007 for Pima County.
The University of Arizona Science and Technology Park contributes nearly $2.5 billion annually to Pima County's economy and is one of the region's largest employment centers, according to a report released Thursday.
"UA Science and Technology Park: Economic Impact 2007," which evaluates the performance of the park and its significant contribution to Tucson and Pima County's economy, is available at www.uatechpark.org.
Authored by Jaewon Lim of the UA Office of Economic Development, the report examines the economic and tax revenue impact of the UA Science and Technology Park for the calendar year 2007 for Pima County. Key areas in the report include employment impact, wage impact, output impact, tax revenue impact and total dollar impact.
"The Tech Park has enjoyed great success during its first 15 years of operation," said Bruce Wright, UA associate vice president of economic development. "It is a significant contributor to the local economy and a major center of high technology employment in Pima County."
The UA Science and Technology Park is home to 41 technology companies and business organizations and more than 7,000 employees. Park tenants include five Fortune 500 companies – IBM, Raytheon, Canon, Citigroup and General Dynamics – as well as several emerging high-tech companies such as NP Photonics, Modavox and DILAS Diode Laser and the Arizona Center for Innovation, a technology business incubator.
The park has almost 2 million square feet of developed space located on 1,345 acres of land. It has been recognized as one of the premier university research parks in North America.
