Annika Sorenstam

LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam

Sorenstam will sign copies of her book, “Golf Annika’s Way” at the UA BookStore.

Golf legend Annika Sorenstam will be the speaker at The University of Arizona's 139th Commencement. The ceremony will be held Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. at McKale Memorial Center.

Sorenstam arrived at the UA as an undergraduate student in the fall of 1990 and played on the UA women's golf team until 1992. During that time, Sorenstam won seven NCAA titles and was the first freshman to win the individual NCAA Championship.

As part of Commencement weekend, Sorenstam will appear at the UA BookStore at the Student Union Memorial Center to sign copies of her book, "Golf Annika's Way," published with the editors of Golf Magazine.

The book signing, an event co-sponsored by UA BookStores and apparel line Cutter & Buck, will take place on Dec. 20 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the UA Student Union Memorial Center. In addition to Sorenstam's appearance, her golf wear, the "ANNIKA Collection by Cutter & Buck," will be available for purchase at the UA BookStore.

All proceeds from UA BookStore sales of "Golf Annika's Way," a mixture of memoir and golfing instruction, will benefit the 2009 Tucson Festival of Books – a collaboration between the UA and the Arizona Daily Star.

Other collegiate accolades for Sorenstam include the 1991 National Co-Player of the Year, the 1992 Pac-10 championship and selection to the 1991-1992 All-American team. In 1992, she was a runner-up for the National Player of the Year Award and also finished second at the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship.

Since her time at the UA, Sorenstam has become the most dominant player in women's golf, rewriting the Ladies' Professional Golf Association and Ladies' European Tour record books. She has won countless LPGA awards and events and has brought unprecedented attention to women's golf, including capturing a career Grand Slam and becoming the all-time LPGA earnings leader.

Sorenstam has announced her retirement and her last official professional golf event will come in December at the Dubai Ladies Masters.
