The local news broadcast will be presented in high definition with a new format.

United States Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer will be the first guest on the new high-definition Arizona Illustrated. The program returns to its normal broadcast time – weekdays at 6:30 p.m. on KUAT Channel 6 – on Monday, Sept. 8. Arizona Illustrated has been on hiatus to allow for coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

"On Monday producer Kimberly Craft takes a look at media, both old (print) and new (Web), and what the future holds for both," said Jack Gibson, director and general manager of Arizona Public Media. "This ties directly to our exclusive, in-depth interview with Justice Breyer about the impact of new media on the Supreme Court."

Justice Breyer will discuss new media – including Web sites, blogs and wikis – and how they have changed reporting about, and public understanding of, both state and federal courts. President Clinton nominated Breyer as an associate justice of the Supreme Court and Breyer took his seat in 1994. Justice Breyer also has written several books.

The remainder of the week Arizona Illustrated will feature segments on health insurance, the Tim Bee-Gabrielle Giffords race for Congressional District 8, a look at the state's transportation situation and the Friday Roundtable.

New program features include broadcasting in high definition, a request for viewer comments for the weekly feedback segment, a new set, new graphics and special video segments to close the program each evening.

Viewers can make comments through the Arizona Public Media Web site.
