'Bouquets to Art' Set to Bloom at UAMA
"Knuckle Bones" by Carl Heldt
Composition #9 by Tadashi Sato
The museum fundraiser features three days of events highlighting one-of-a-kind floral arrangements.
“Bouquets to Art,” an interpretation of art through flowers, will showcase some of the finest pieces from The University of Arizona Museum of Art’s permanent collections.
The three-day event – which raises funds to support the museum – will highlight arrangements created by 40 of the nation’s foremost floral designers and arrangers, interpreting works by artists such as Elizabeth Catlett, Alexander Calder, Hans Uhlmann and Tadashi Sato.
”Bouquets to Art” begins with a preview party and silent auction on March 28 at 6 p.m. at the UA Museum of Art, known as UAMA. The preview party is open to the public, and tickets are available at the UAMA office for $150 per person.
The exhibition will be open to the public on March 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Three additional ”Bouquets to Art” events will take place over the weekend. “The Rose Dude’s Guide to Growing Roses in Torrid Tucson,” hosted by Tucson rose grower and lecturer Terry Swartz, takes place on March 29 at 9:30 a.m. Swartz also will open his private rose garden for a tour in April for those who attend his lecture. The cost is $15.
Georgeanne Fimbres, who owns Villa Feliz Flower Shop in Tucson, will host a hand-on workshop titled “Your Garden as Art ... Bringing the Desert to Floral Artistry." The workshop begins March 29 at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $25.
On March 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., UAMA will host children’s workshops throughout the day. Admission is free, and a parent or guardian must accompany each child.
Reservations are recommended for the workshop and the lectures. Call 520-621-7567 to make a reservation.
