Pillars of Excellence Reception to be Held Feb. 19

The event recognizes distinguished professors and outstanding student scholars.

The Pillars of Excellence gallery, a display honoring University of Arizona Regents' Professors, University Distinguished Professors, University Distinguished Outreach Professors and selected outstanding student scholars from the Honors College, will welcome new faces on Feb. 19.

In a brief program, President Robert N. Shelton, Provost Eugene Sander and Honors College Dean Patricia MacCorquodale will acknowledge this year's honorees and present portraits to past honored guests. A reception will follow.

The 2007 Regents' Professors are: Malcolm Hughes, professor of dendrochronology and watershed management at Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research; Michael Marcellin, professor of optical sciences and electrical and computer engineering; and Ofelia Zepeda, professor of language, reading and culture and linguistics.

James Jefferson Reid Jr., anthropology, will be recognized as the 2007 Distinguished Professor and Celestino Fernandez, sociology, will be recognized as the 2007 Distinguished Outreach Professor.

Laura Atchinson, studio art
Daniel Crawford, chemical and environmental engineering
Dustin Cox, political science and sociology
Cherilyn Gain, creative writing and international studies
Christina Kwong, molecular and cellular biology
Richelle Meiss, theatre arts
James Moxness, art history, chemical engineering and classics
Devin Sreecherana, international studies and psychology
Laura Juliana Urturbey, education
Kendra Walworth, computer science and linguistics

The University community is invited to attend the reception, which will be held in the lower level of the UA BookStore from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
