UA Tech Park Named Economic Engine in State of Arizona

The University of Arizona Science and Technology Park, known as the UA Tech Park, was recognized by AZ Business Magazine at its Second Annual Economic Engines of Arizona Awards. The award was presented on Oct. 2 in Phoenix.

The award recognizes people, places and organizations that exemplify the best of what drives the state’s economy and makes Arizona fertile ground for businesses.

All awardees must be headquartered or have a large presence in Arizona, conduct business within the state on a regular basis and have been in business for three years.

The UA Tech Park was selected in the “Places” category based on its rapid growth over the last 13 years - from two companies and 1,200 employees to more than 7,500 employees and 27 companies. The impact of the Park on the local and state economy has increased nearly 70 percent since 1997 and employment has increased by almost 50 percent.

Home to four Fortune 500 companies, the UA Tech Park has incubated 26 start-up companies in the Tucson community, including Sion Power and NP Photonics, a UA spin-off company.

The UA Tech Park has almost 2 million square feet of developed space located on 1,345 acres of land. The Park is preparing for rapid growth with expansion of the current research portion of the Park, new residential development by KB Home and a hotel and conference center.
