Hispanic Business Magazine Ranks Three UA Colleges in Top 20
Hispanic Business Magazine has named three University of Arizona colleges as among the best for Hispanics.
In its September issue, the magazine ranked the James E. Roger’s College of Law ninth among U.S. law schools, the College of Medicine 11th among medical schools and the Eller College of Management 14th among business schools.
To determine the rankings, Hispanic Business assessed the number and percentage of Hispanic students; the number and type of programs and services geared toward recruiting and mentoring Hispanic students; the student retention rate; and the school’s standing in U.S. News & World Report's rankings.
Student diversity was among several areas at the UA that saw significant improvements in the 2007 census data that recently was released. Other areas that saw increases, some of which set records, were total enrollment numbers, first-year retention rates and freshman class size.
The UA has several initiatives in place to recruit and retain students from culturally diverse backgrounds.
The College of Medicine's efforts include a variety of academic, professional and social support services for Hispanic medical students as well as its general student population.
The school medical school cites specific recruitment efforts for Hispanic students that begin as early as elementary school as well as other key mentoring initiatives and internationally collaborative efforts in its ranking.
The James E. Roger College of Law has frequently been included on the magazine’s list due to the college’s affordability and accessibility. The magazine also recognized its work in recruiting and preparing lawyers of diverse backgrounds with skills and knowledge for a lifelong ability to practice in a multicultural society and global environment.
The Eller College recruits students from diverse ethnic, economic and social backgrounds throughout the Americas and beyond. The magazine cited faculty diversity, minority recruiting and scholarships available to Hispanic students as factors making Eller College a national leader.
