Guidelines for Media Access to the Phoenix Mars Mission Science Operations Center
Badging Procedure
- Read and agree to the conditions set forth on this page.
- Complete all required areas for the request.
- Submit your request.
- Once approved, you will receive an e-mail telling you when and where to get your badge.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When picking up badge at the UA Visitor Center, each individual must provide a valid picture ID from a government agency – such as driver’s license or passport.
- The individual, by acceptance of the badge, agrees to abide by the regulations of the UA and to subject him/herself and any property in his/her possession or control, to any search or detention necessary for the protection of people, information and property.
- The badges issued by the UA are only good for the purpose for which they are issued and will be revoked if they are abused.
- Media must display their UA badge at all times while visiting the SOC. Lost badges must be reported immediately to the Phoenix Mars Mission Media Relations staff.
- Media at UA to cover the Phoenix Mars landing and surface operations will have access to the Payload Interoperability Testbed (PIT) floor when it is open. Media may not go into any other areas of the SOC without a Media Relations escort. Failure to abide by this rule will result in immediate revocation of the badge.
- Media will also have access to designated press areas on the UA campus during the Phoenix Mars Mission.
General Rules While at the SOC
- A Media Relations escort must accompany media at all times to any area outside the designated media site. Media must remain with their escort at all times and not wander off.
- Touching/moving of any equipment/hardware is prohibited.
Rules for Conduct
The UA Science Operations Center is a working laboratory and all media agree to abide by the UA's safety and security rules. Violation of UA rules and regulations will result in the immediate suspension or revocation of credentials.
- Unprofessional activities will not be tolerated. Unprofessional activities include:
- Any behavior deemed disruptive to other journalists, mission operations or mission personnel
- Seeking autographs
- Peddling materials for profit
- Collecting government-provided materials (photographs and other written products) for purposes other than publication or background research
- Any behavior deemed unlawful
- The possession of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or firearms in any form at the UA is strictly prohibited. Violators of this regulation will have their badges pulled IMMEDIATELY and have their credentials to cover future mission events revoked.
- Smoking is not permitted in any UA facility.
By submitting this document for accreditation, I have agreed to abide by all the rules and regulations of the UA Phoenix Mars Mission.
