Several UA Graduate Programs Reach New Heights
The UA’s part-time master's program in business administration, computer science, education and mathematics saw ranking gains in the 2015 U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of Best Graduate Schools. “It’s gratifying to see hard work in graduate programs recognized and these are competitive programs,” said Andrew Carnie, dean of the UA Graduate College.
UA Launches Defense and Security Research Institute
The UA has launched a new Defense and Security Research Institute that aims to expand the University's strengths in those areas while helping the UA to reach its goal of doubling research expenditures from $600 million to $1.2 billion by 2023. The interdisciplinary institute will help pave the way for new, mutually beneficial partnerships between the UA and industry, which is one of the key goals of the University's Never Settle plan.
More Than 100K People Expected on Campus for Tucson Festival of Books
Whether you're a sci-fi junkie or can't read enough of the classics, the Tucson Festival of Books has something to suit all ages and interests. The festival brings more than 120,000 book lovers to campus from across the country, making it one of the largest festivals of its kind. Since its inception in 2009, the free public festival has donated more than $900,000 to local literacy initiatives and pumps around $4 million into Tucson's economy each year.
Tucson Village Farm Honored as Model Program for the Nation
National 4-H Council President and CEO Jennifer Sirangelo visited Tucson Village Farm to recognize it as a model program for the nation. Sirangelo, along with representatives from the UA College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and UA Cooperative Extension, met for a tour and discussion at Tucson Village Farm, a program of the UA and Cooperative Extension.
Cmdr. Brian Seastone Named New UA Chief of Police
UA Police Cmdr. Brian Seastone has been named UA chief of police. A 34-year veteran of the UA Police Department, Seastone will provide strategic leadership for the department and oversee its campus crime prevention efforts, community outreach initiatives, and crisis and emergency response management.
