Top UA orthopaedic innovator and researcher John A. Szivek is widely recognized for his studies of bone and cartilage regeneration with the goal of repairing damaged joints. Director of the UA Orthopaedic Research Laboratory and a senior scientist at the UA Arthritis Center, Szivek will share the latest cutting-edge developments in the future of joint resurfacing. He will lead lecture participants through current treatments for arthritis and defect repair and detail exciting advances in cartilage regeneration strategies, from repairing small defects to total surface replacements. He also will discuss the key elements of joint structure and osteoarthritis.
Szivek also is professor of orthopaedic surgery and chair of the UA Biomedical Engineering Graduate Interdisciplinary Program at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson; UA adjunct associate professor, aerospace and mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and Physiological Sciences Graduate Interdisciplinary Program; and a professor with the UA BIO5 Institute.
