University of Arizona Local Food Summit

Cooperative Extension is hosting a statewide Local Food Summit on May 14 to foster collaboration among various University departments and partner organizations that are working to develop Arizona's local food systems. At this working summit, participants will develop action plans for how University of Arizona entities and partners can support socially equitable, economically viable, and environmentally sound local food systems.

Anyone who already is working on local food systems in Arizona, both within and outside of the University of Arizona, is welcome to apply.

Gary Nabhan will open the summit with an inspiring message. Groups will then break out to discuss the current state of Arizona’s food system and the possibilities for an equitable and functioning food system in the future. After lunch, we will identify opportunities for collaboration, communicate what we need and can offer to one another, and develop action plans for future work. Jeff Silvertooth will close the summit by speaking about the importance of moving forward together.

The summit is limited to 100 participants due to budgetary constraints, so please communicate with your department, school or organization to determine who will apply to participate. In the case that there are more applicants than seats available, your registration status will be confirmed no later than May 1.
