Governor Signs Telemedicine Bill at UA College of Medicine-Phoenix Gov. Jan Brewer participated in a ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 1353, also known as the Telemedicine Reimbursement Parity Act, requiring telemedicine services be covered by health insurance in rural areas of Arizona. The signing took place in the T-Health Institute on the UA College of Medicine-Phoenix campus. The institute is part of the award-winning Arizona Telemedicine Program based at the UA College of Medicine-Tucson.

The New Face of Mining: Women Carving Out a Place in Surging Industry For years, women have been making a place for themselves in an industry where their exclusion is as old as the profession itself - but where their inclusion today is critical to meeting a shortage of skilled workers. The UA is helping to fill the mining industry pipeline, and this includes educating and guiding female engineers. This is the first story in a series about women in mining.

Three UA Students Named Tillman Military Scholars In advance of Memorial Day, the Pat Tillman Foundation has named its new class of Tillman Military Scholars. The program helps servicemembers earn higher education degrees. Of the 60 students across the nation to receive the honor, three are UA students: Felisa (Hervey) Dyrud, Adam Ratesic and Jose Cervantes. All three recipients served in the U.S. Air Force.

Students will spend three weeks in Verona, Italy.

Italy-Bound Students to Learn Cooking the Mediterranean Way Several UA students are headed to Verona, Italy to study the Mediterranean diet and its health benefits through the University's new Mediterranean Diet and Health study abroad program. While in Verona, they will visit an olive oil processing plant, a cheese factory and a pasta factory and will practice cooking with the pros as they learn about the diet's role in disease prevention.

UA Helps Build Heritage Conservation Program in Afghanistan In an effort to help Afghanistan preserve its past, the UA is partnering with Kabul University to help build the college's cultural heritage conservation program.
