UA Tech Park Has Significant Impact on Region
In 2009, the UA Tech Park and its resident companies had an economic impact of $2.67 billion in Pima County. This included $1.81 billion in direct economic impacts such as wages paid and supplies and services purchased and $861 million in indirect and induced dollar impacts, finds a new study.

The UA's McKale Memorial Center will host ESPN's College GameDay covered by State Farm on Jan. 28 when Arizona plays Washington at 5 p.m. MST. Fans are asked to wear white to the game. GameDay festivities are open to the public; arena doors are scheduled to open at 6 a.m.

A team born out of the UA's College of Law founded Tough Love Pit Bull Rescue, an organization working to save dogs in line to be euthanized in Arizona, California, Nevada and Washington.

Arizona, Washington State to Battle Thursday
Arizona men's basketball (13-7, 4-3 Pac-12) will open a two-game homestand against the Washington schools by hosting Washington State (11-8, 3-4 Pac-12) on Jan. 26 at McKale Memorial Center. The game starts at 8:30 p.m. MST and will be shown on FOX Sports Net.

Tiny Life Thrives in Dark Depths of Kartchner Caverns
Arizona Public Media | A team of scientists from the UA has been crawling through the depths of Kartchner Caverns, searching for the smallest keys to life: microbes. It seems they like the dark, moist environment of the cave. Researchers found that microbes in the cave were markedly different from ones found on the surface, above the cave. -

In Mackerel's Plunder, Hints of Epic Fish Collapse The New York Times | The UA's Mort Rosenblum, a professor of practice in the School of Journalism, traveled to Chile to report on the declining stocks of jack mackerel, whose fate may foretell the progressive collapse of fish supplies in oceans. The study of racial differences in bankruptcy filings was written by two professors at the University of Illinois and Jean Braucher, a law professor at the UA.

Study: Heartburn Drugs Don’t Help Children’s Asthma USA Today | An acid reflux drug often used for hard-to-treat asthma doesn't help children with the breathing disease and may cause side effects, a study in 300 children found. Use of these drugs has more than doubled in U.S. children in recent years, but the study results suggest doctors should put the brakes on that practice, said UA asthma expert Dr. Fernando Martinez.
